Headhunter Company 'Open Recruitment' Announcement
Suggestion of specific conditions such as lens and lighting development
"I can't stop the freedom to choose a job"
Need special measures to protec
An action made by Chinese display companies to scout Korean organic light-emitting diode (OLED) core technology personnel was detected again. China took over the No.1 spot in liquid crystal display (LCD) world, and this move was considered a way to 'innovate the display' by stealing Korean OLED technology. There is a strong opinion that has been supported that the core technology of display needs to be protected as a national strategic technology, and lay a foundation for the industry to grow.
On the 7th, a domestic headhunter company posted an open recruitment for development personnel positions in manager-level and department head in the small OLED development that allows to work in China. The headhunter did not reveal the name of the company, but only mentioned that it was a Chinese panel company. The required recruitment condition is for personnel with more than 5 years of experience in the small display overall process.
The company is receiving attention by stating fairly detailed hiring conditions, such as personnel with experience in semiconductor lens development, semiconductor or display photo factories, and with more than 5 years of experience in OLED structure and lighting development. The industry is speculating that the company is BOE that has a history of mass-producing small OLED panels and supplying the products to Apple.
The company claimed that position and salary are ‘negotiable’. The industry assumes that the salary will be offered twice as much as the salary in Korea. A display industry official said, “A Chinese company offered three to four times the current annual salary and hired Korean display personnel a few years ago. It was very common in the industry to offer more than double the minimum salary as a condition for working in China.”
The fastest way for China to close the gap with Korea that has the world's No. 1 display technology is by taking key personnel from Korea. It is understood that the major Chinese display companies such as BOE and CSOT consists of many Korean technicians. Other reports from the industry suggested that there are more than 20% of Korean employees.
The current level of China's OLED technology is more than three years away from that of Korea. However, this gap can be quickly closed by scouting key engineers.

Professor Jang-hyuk Kwon from a department of information display at Kyunghee University said, “The reality is that there is no way to prevent freedom of career choice. However, it is necessary to have a special measure to prevent China from more blatantly scouting key domestic display personnel.”
