Hana Technology will supply KRW 1.5 trillion worth of semi-solid battery equipment to a Norwegian battery manufacturer Freyr. Freyr will be the first to produce the semi-solid battery and will also be the first in the industry to place an order for related equipment. Hana Technology signed a business agreement with Freyr on the 24th to build a semi-solid battery production facility at its headquarters in Yongin-si, Gyeonggi-do. Hana Technology exports semi-solid process equipment to Freyr’s soon-to-be built 50GWh capacity battery plant in Europe. The contract worth is KRW 1.5 trillion, and the duration of the contract is from the second half of this year until the end of 2025. The shipment will begin next year as soon as the Freyr’s equipment prototype is verified.
An official from Hana Technology said, "It is very meaningful to provide a batch of semi-solid battery process production equipment. This is the result of Hana Technology’s abilities being recognized in battery assembly, formation process equipment manufacturing, and sales.”
Freyr is a Norwegian battery manufacturer that manufactures both lithium-ion batteries and semi-solid batteries. In Mo i Rana, Norway, Freyr built a semi-solid battery manufacturing facility with a capacity of 50 GWh that can produce semi-solid batteries for 500,000 EV.
Hana Technology is discussing additional orders with Freyr. Freyr will build a new battery plant in Finland. It is believed that the new plant in Finland to be the same size as the Norwegian plant. Freyr’s batteries will be supplied to global auto manufacturers, including German auto manufacturer, Volvo. Starting with Volvo, Freyr will promote the supply of semi-solid batteries to European and Asian companies. The order for Hana Technology will be reflected in performance for this year, and the order backlog will increase to KRW 500 billion within this year. After that, Hana Technology is expected to enhance the performance sequentially thereafter.

<Glossary> Semi-solid battery
It is a next-generation product of lithium batteries. The new product ensures safety by having the electrolyte in a semi-solid gel form from a liquid. It is an intermediate step before moving on to all-solid-state batteries. The energy capacity per battery is 1.5 times greater than that of a lithium battery. The energy performance of the battery has been improved by increasing the content of silicon, which is the core material of the battery.
