SK materials announced on the 30th that they are changingtheir name to SK specialty. They also announced that their goal of achieving more than 1 trillion KRW in sales by 2025 by leaping into a global eco-friendly gas and chemical technology company.
The new name, SK specialty, contains their will to lead the existing special gas business and new chemical business through differentiated technology and strengthening the competency of their workers.
In order to achieve this goal, SK specialty is expanding their business portfolio from the existing semiconductor·display special gas to high value-added product groups such as battery materials and wet chemical materials.
SK specialty,the world's top producers in the special gas sector,is promoting sustainable growth throughtheir stable demand and price competitiveness of main business, which arenitrogen trifluoride and tungsten hexafluoride. They will increase the production of monosilane in line with the growth of the battery market. Monosilane is a key material for silicon anode materials that are attracting attention as a next-generation battery technology.
SK specialty is also promoting the high-functional wet chemical material business in earnest. Wet chemical materials are cleaning and etching solutions which are used in semiconductor processes, and demand is also increasing rapidly with the development of process technology. SK specialty will introduce new product lines by 2025 by securing additive technology and ultra-highpurity refining technology.
SK specialty is also pushing research and development (R&D) and strengthening material commercialization capabilities. Focusing on the high-tech materials from Sejong Campus, which opened this year, they will strive to secure next-generation technologies for various materials.
SK specialty aims to increase their sales from 600 billion KRW last year to over 1 trillion KRW by 2025 through securing stable demand, strengthening cost competitiveness, and expanding new portfolios.
SK specialty will invest up to 3% of their sales in safety and health environment (SHE) for sustainable growth. They plan to establish a system to prevent human errors in advance and manage pollutants more efficiently.
SK specialty invested 46 billion KRW in 2018 to improve safety facilities and work environment in factories.
SK specialty also preemptively responds to greenhouse gas and environmental issues as the level of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) requirements of companies increases. They plan to achieve a waste recycling rate of 95% or more by 2023.
SK specialty also set a goal to achieve 100% of wastewater recycling by 2030, as well as 'Net Zero' (zero carbon emissions) and RE100 (using 100% electricity generated from recycled energy).
SK specialty also improves the way of their works and the environment. They support programs to improve performance, work environment, and individual competency.
With the name change of SK specialty, they also shared the company's mid- to long-term vision and the direction of the new brand through the presentation of the financial story to their employee.
