Samsung Display has established a simulation platform that evaluates the characteristics of OLED panel materials. Its purpose is to support business partners to strengthen their capabilities and create an organic material ecosystem that is a key element of OLED performance.
Samsung Display announced on the 6th that it has developed a simulation platform called "Sync-OLED" that pre-evaluates OLED material characteristics in collaboration with the Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information (KISTI) Supercomputing Application Center.
Sync-OLED is a platform that can simulate complex characteristics closely related to OLED performance, such as charge mobility, including basic characteristics unique to OLED materials. Not only Samsung Display's existing partners, but also material companies and research institutes can use it with separate consent.
In order for partners to simulate material characteristics on their own, hundreds of millions of won must be spent on purchasing software (SW) and hiring professionals. In order to have a super computing server that can use professional SW, initial investment costs of billions of won are also incurred.
To support this simulation infrastructure of partners, Samsung Display developed organic material simulation tools with KISTI Supercomputing Application Center for two years from 2020 and built platform servers in supercomputing application centers.
"As Solus Advanced Materials has been interested in predicting material performance in the mid to long term, this system construction attempt will be a good model for win-win cooperation." Said Tae-hyung Kim, Executive Director of Solus Advanced Materials Electronic Materials Business Division. "We will contribute to the development of OLED industries by developing high-efficiency organic materials using the Samsung Display simulation platform." he said.
Chang-hee Lee, Vice President of Samsung Display Research Institute, said, "As the OLED market expands rapidly around mobile devices, the organic material market is also facing great growth opportunities." “The material characteristics evaluation standardization platform established by Samsung Display will help talented startups enter the market and support qualitative and quantitative growth in material company research, contributing to win-win cooperation with partners," he expected.
