Western Digital plans to hire new domestic R&D personnel and expand a variety of storage product lines.
Western Digital produces a high-performance storage 'Solid State Drive (SSD)’. It launched a high-end SSD with the NAND flash-base. Jae-in Ko, managing director of Western Digital’s SSD development team, said, “We are expanding our domestic workforce to expand our storage product line. We will develop an improved product compared to the previous products by hiring additional engineers as well as domestic development personnel.”
Western Digital is recruiting firmware-related personnel to enhance SSD performance. Firmware determines the performance of NAND-based SSD. WD responds to storage demand with the best-in-class product by applying its own firmware.
Western Digital launched a new WD Black high-performance SSD for gaming. The WD Black SN850 is equipped with next-generation Zen 4 technology. Western Digital’s self-developed firmware improves transmission speed and increases storage space.
Director Ko said, “The SSD developers and engineers of the domestic R&D team collaborated with several overseas teams to develop this product. We are receiving positive media reviews after launching the product.”
Western Digital is also expanding its firmware authentication team. The authentication team was established earlier this year, and the team will expand to meet customer demand. In addition, the company will expand the domestic laboratories and make equipment investment.
Western Digital is expansion of domestic research workforce and increasing investment is due to high expectations for the domestic market. In Korea, sales of the WD Black product line are steady, and there is a high possibility of adopting Zen 5 products with enhanced performance in the future.
Director Ko said, “Storage is in high demand from gaming to mobile devices and data centers. The Korean market has great potential for growth in the storage market as it rapidly adopts new technologies.”
