Genesis applies 'Face Connect' technology, which controls the vehicle by facial recognition, to  GV60, the first dedicated electric vehicle. It is the first time in Korea that facial recognition technology is applied to a vehicle.

Face Connect recognizes the driver's face to lock/unlock vehicle doors and determine who the user is. The driver's seat and steering wheel position, head-up display (HUD), side mirrors, and infotainment settings are adjusted to suit the driver with the new technology.

It allows drivers to enter and drive the vehicle without a key. This technology will open the era of driving a car only with biometric information.

Genesis applied a near-infrared (NIR) camera to Face Connect. Equivalent recognition performance was ensured even on cloudy days and at nights. It uses deep learning-based image recognition technology to determine pre-registered faces.

Drivers can lock the door even when leaving the smart key inside. Drivers can easily enjoy outdoor activities such as running or playing in the water without carrying the car keys.

Drivers can easily register face information of up to two people through voice guidance. There is no risk of leakage of the information since facial information is encrypted and stored within the vehicle.

In conjunction with the fingerprint authentication system to be applied to the GV60, the vehicle can be controlled with biometric information without a smartphone or smart key. Drivers can start and drive the vehicle through fingerprint recognition after entering the vehicle through facial recognition.

In addition, fingerprint authentication can be used to replace the PIN code input required for in-vehicle simple payment or valet mode release. This improves convenience and security at the same time.

Genesis will also significantly expand the coverage of over-the-air software update (OTA) technology. The integrated electric vehicle control unit, suspension,  brake, steering wheel, and airbag can be updated, in addition to the existing infotainment systems such as navigation, cluster, and HUD.

A Genesis official said, "These new technologies will be installed in the GV60 that will be released soon, and we will gradually expand the application models.”
