Agence France-Press (AFP) and The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported on the 3rd that Kaseya, a US security management service provider, suffered a ransomware attack on its network platform, and many of its customers were affected by it. Ransomware is a malicious software that locks personal system or encrypts personal data to make one’s device unusable.

Kaseya's flagship product, 'Kaseya VSA', a virtual system automation management solution, assists large enterprises and technology service providers in managing and processing computer network system software updates.

Kaseya announced that it had closed the server as precautionary measures after being aware of a potential attack related to VSA at noon (EST) the day before. Afterwards, Kaseya explained that it informed to close the VSA server to customers through e-mails, phone calls, and in-product notices.

Kaseya said that companies that utilize software through their own servers were mainly affected rather than customers using Kaseya’s online services.Less than 40 of its 30,000+ customers were affected by the attack.

According to AFP, Coop Sweden, one of Sweden's largest supermarket franchise, has closed about 800 stores due to a payment system issue. Coop Sweden made a statement without disclosing Kaseya’s name that, "One of our subcontractors has been under a cyber attack and the payment system is not working.”

The U.S. Cyber security and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) said in a statement that it was closely monitoring the hacking situation and that it would work with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to collect more data on the incident.

The Korea Internet and Security Agency (KISA) announced on the 4th that there have been no reported case related to the recent ransomware attack on Kaseya, a US IT security management service provider.

Kaseya urges not to click on any links if customers were to experience ransomware symptoms and receive a message from the attacker.  KISA urgently announced the incident to related organizations and recommended to not use the VSA until Kaseya makes an announcement.
