A South Korean company will contribute to prevention of the spread of COVID-19 within Europe based on its technologies in AI (Artificial Intelligence) and CCTV. A well-known European grocery company will install products from this South Korea company inside of 1,000 stores in order to enforce social distancing.
ITX has been working on informing European companies about its CCTV since March when COVID-19 began to spread globally. Its CCTV prevents people without masks and more than certain number of people from coming inside of a store based on AI.
In certain European countries such as the United Kingdom and Germany, their governments told managers of stores in their countries to only allow certain numbers of customers depending on how big their stores are in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19. However, it is difficult for most of stores to assign personnel who manage CCTVs at all times and count numbers of people who enter their stores one by one. It is also difficult to immediately prevent a person without a mask from coming inside of a store and to manage groups of people coming in at once.
ITX has solved these issues with its AI CCTV. Because its AI CCTV can be linked to a store’s access control, it orders doors to be closed when more than certain number of people come inside the store. When people come inside of a store, ITX’s AI CCTV can measure everyone’s temperature and separate those with high temperatures as it can be paired with a thermal camera. It can also immediately detect a person without a mask through image sensing technology.
It can also prevent people from ignoring social distancing. It measures the distance between people who are in its view and causes an alarm to go off when they are within 2 meters from each other. It can basically provide a physical response for social distancing. It is also installed with a “privacy masking” feature that prevents any possibility of abusing personal information in the future.

ITX’s CCTVs will be first installed inside of ALDI’s stores. ALDI is a well-known grocery company from the United Kingdom. It decided that it needs to install ITX’s CCTVs as soon as possible in order to deal with COVID-19. 1,000 ITX’s CCTVs will be installed inside of 1,000 ALDI stores next month. Besides ALDI, ITX is also in discussions with 2 to 3 franchises including a major fast food franchise.
ITX has been researching on AI algorithms that can be applied to CCTV since two years before the COVID-19 outbreak. It wanted to use CCTVs to prevent crimes and for the business intelligence field rather than just using CCTVs to simply record videos. It noticed that its technologies will be optimal for social distancing after the COVID-19 crisis eases and it has reinforced its promotions for foreign markets.
AI CCTV can be introduced in two different ways. If a store is already installed with CCTVs, it can simply introduce ITX’s “AI box” and link the box to its CCTVs. ITX’s AI box can be linked to any CCTV that follow industrial standards. Because most of stores already have CCTVs installed, they are highly interested in ITX’s “AI box”. If a store does not have a CCTV set up, it can install an “AI camera” and materialize an AI CCTV. ITX currently has 4-channel, 8-channel, and 16-channel CCTVs.
ITX’s AI box received a certification for an intelligent CCTV performance test from KISA (Korea Internet & Security Agency) last year. Before the COVID-19 outbreak, it was usually used for domestic and foreign intelligent CCTV surveillance systems and the dispatched security market. Since the outbreak, it has been supplied to foreign markets as a part of “COVID-19 package”. One can also purchase a license separately depending on 20 AI features.
“We expect that our AI CCTV technology will be useful for social distancing after the COVID-19 crisis eases.” said President Park Sang-yeol of ITX. “We have a great pride in the fact that we are able to demonstrate South Korea’s AI CCTV technology to foreign markets and make contributions to “K-quarantine”.”
ITX is a company that specializes in physical security and it was established in February of 1998. It provides DSP-based (Digital Signal Processing) security solutions and DVRs (Digital Video Recorder) and it designs and develops video surveillance systems and surrounding devices. It secured ISO 9001 and ISO14001 certifications, which are for quality management and environmental management system, and it has established quality management system and environmental management system that are requested by foreign markets.
