There are criticisms that say it is difficult to repair Samsung’s Galaxy S7 because one has to change all of display panel even when a simple screen is broken.
According to 9to5Google on the 9th, Galaxy S7 received 3 out of 10 on repair possibility that is brought up by iFixit. As the number gets closer to 10, it is easier to repair or replace parts.
iFixit has first made an evaluation that it is difficult to disassemble Galaxy S7. While it is already difficult to open up a main body of Galaxy S7, iFixit explains that it is very difficult to replace components without damaging other parts when Galaxy S7 is disassembled. Inner antennas and speakers and wireless charging coils are modularized and they are connected to motherboard by a very small spring. To disassemble Galaxy S7, one needs to first melt thick adhesive that holds rear panels together.
Cables cover up surrounding of display’s rear frame and this makes it difficult to repair display and digitalized devices, micro USB port, microphone, soft home button and others. Samsung Galaxy S7 has a structure that it is impossible to repair components such as USB ports without damaging display.
“It is almost impossible to repair a broken screen without damaging display due to adhesive.” said iFixit.
Because Galaxy S7 has IP68 waterproof function, rubber sealing covers up surrounding of headphone jack, microphone, and speakers. Liquid cooling system is made up of heat pipe that is thinner than 0.5mm. It is also difficult to detach a battery and this indicates that Samsung Electronics had designed Galaxy S7 without really thinking about replacement of batteries.
