Global businesses are competing each other to preoccupy IoT markets. While most of them were just displaying their level of technologies in IoT until last year, they will actually show real products with strengthened connection between them at CES 2016. Not only electronic industries are competing fiercely, but parts suppliers, solution industries, and semiconductor industries are also competing each other fiercely to dominate platforms.

According to industries that are related on the 5th, huge global businesses will show many IoT products, solutions, and parts at ‘CES 2016’ that will start on the 6th (U.S. time) in Las Vegas.

It has become a must to apply IoT to electric products because data can be collected and more convenient service can be provided while IoT is being applied. Above everything, businesses can create new value chains and have additional sales centered on connected products if they preoccupy IoT Smart Home markets.

Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics that are leading global household appliances markets will introduce Smart Home where IoT is added to household appliances.

Samsung Electronics is going to add IoT platform called ‘Smart Home Hub’, which was co-developed with Smart Things, to all 2016 ‘SUHD TV’ models. It is going to give a role of Smart Home Hub to Smart TVs and link them to other IoT devices. It is also going to introduce household appliances such as ‘Family Hub Refrigerator’, ‘Flex Duo Oven Range’ and others that now have IoT.

LG Electronics is going to introduce Smart Home Gateway called ‘Smart ThinQ Hub’. Not only does it provide products’ current states, but it also provides information such as personal schedule, weather and others through a screen and by voice. LG Electronics is going to link Smart ThinQ Hub to current IoT platforms such as ‘Alljoyn’, ‘Iris’ and others and go after early preoccupancy of IoT markets. It will also introduce detachable ‘Smart ThinQ Sensor’ that enables current household appliances to be used as Smart products.

Semiconductor industries are going to release variety of parts that will implement IoT service. Most of businesses will introduce new products and new technologies that will be installed into IoT devices in variety of fields such as vehicles, virtual reality (VR), drones, wearable, healthcare and others at CES 2016.

Intel is going to introduce many IoT parts. CEO Brian Krzanich of Intel will be the keynote speaker for CES once again after he was the speaker in 2014 and 2015. As usual, Intel will introduce chip solutions that are specialized for IoT and not processors for PCs and servers. Intel has put out system on chip (SoC) called ‘Quark’ that is based on x86 Architecture, wearable module called ‘Curie’ that is size of a button and has ‘Quark’, and subminiature computer module called ‘Edison’ that is size of a SD Card and is forming an ecosystem for developers.

Qualcomm, which is one of powerhouses in Smartphone markets, will show off its vehicle infotainment, connected car, and solutions for drones that are based on Snapdragon AP (application processor) and LTE (long-term evolution) modem chip technology. Qualcomm is expecting that demands for its LTE solutions will increase if all things are connected.

NXP, which merged with Freescale and has emerged as the top vehicle semiconductor business, is also planning to put out many chip solutions for vehicles. Whether or not NXP will release radar vision solution with higher performance for ADAS (advanced driver assistance systems) at CES 2016 is catching people’s eyes.

NVIDIA, which is the top GPU business for PCs, is going to put out GPU technology solution that is specialized for VR and introduce ‘VR Ready’ Program. Imagination, which is a mobile GPU business, will also display raytracing + mobile GPU technologies that insert lighting effect into graphics in real-time.

Display industries are also out to preoccupy IoT markets with a goal of having all things become displays. LG Display is going to introduce 18-inch Rollable OLED (organic light-emitting diode) panel that implements radius of curvature of 30R for the first time in the world. If this product is commercialized, curtains and blinds can be used as displays.

“It seems that semiconductor businesses, parts suppliers and others are focusing their capabilities onto IoT field after front-end industries, which used to be traditional sources of demands, have been suffering due to decrease in shipment of PCs, slow growth rate of Smartphones and others.” said a person related to this industry about behind situations for preparing for this year’s CES.
