SK Group is reorganizing its ICT business, which has been its one of 3 driving forces, by either combining or dividing it that had been divided by network, platform, and service per affiliate. Reorganization of ICT business will be discussed at a seminar, which will take place on the 28th for 3 days, for SK Group’s CEOs.

SK Group will discuss about reorganization of ICT business at a seminar for CEOs in Jeju from the 28th to 30th. After selecting energy, semiconductor, and ICT as 3 driving forces in the past, it had succeeded in energy and semiconductor fields by making decisive large investments.

SK Group has been pushing ICT business by diving it into network (SK Telecom), platform (SK Planet), and service (SK Corporation, C&C holding company). ICT business that was divided has faced limitation as South Korean markets have become stagnant, and network field is its prime example.

Industries will pay careful attention to SK Group’s structure reorganization of ICT business after the seminar because it has great impact on industries. SK Group can secure a solid position in IoT and ICT platform markets that will be newly formed.

Competition for leadership between SK Group’s affiliates in ICT field is another thing that industries have to focus on, and they also need to look at whether or not SK Corporation (known as SK C&C in the past), which has become an actual holding company after merging with past SK Corporation, will expand its ICT business. “Currently it is difficult to predict how reorganization of ICT business between affiliates will take place. We will be able to see its outline up to a certain degree after this seminar.” said a person in SK Group.

Along with Chairman Choi Tae Won of SK Group, chairmen such as Chairman Kim Chang Geun of SUPEX Council, Chairman Lim HyungKyu of ICT, Chairman Jung Chung Gil of Strategies, and Chairman Ha Sung Min of Ethical Management from 7 committees, and major affiliates’ CEOs such as President Chang Dong Hyun of SK Telecom, Presidents Park Jung Ho and Cho DaeShik of SK Corporation, and President Park Sung Wook of SK Hynix will attend this seminar. They will primarily discuss about development of operating system, SK’s desirable business culture, and SK’s way of developing its contribution towards society.

It seems that SK Group’s structure of ICT business hereafter will combine platform, network, and service that are divided into one. President Jang Dong Hyuk had emphasized that SK needs to promote 3C-based life-worth platform, combined media platform, and IoT service platform from contents, community, and commerce. This means that SK will combine network and platform based on consumers that use services.

Divided ICT business’s structure is also an obstacle towards KT rapidly pushing for foreign business. SK Corporation had agreed on working with China’s Hon Hai Group and is pushing for Smart Factory business that will be applied towards Foxconn’s factories. It needs network’s performance in pushing for IoT-based Smart Factory business and platform to create variety of services. President Park Jung Ho of SK Corporation had said that SK Corporation will become a global business-type holding company with ICT-based business and rich finance from SK Corporation, which means that it will expand variety of combined businesses based on ICT.
