Hyundai & Kia announced on February 3 that the new i20 amd Sorento won awards in transportation design in the product design category of ‘2015 iF Design Award supervised by Germany’s International Forum Design. The iF Design Award is rated as the top three design awards of the world along with the Red Dot Design Award and the IDEA Design Award.

The new i20 and Sorento are the flagship models that Hyundai & Kia released to put spurs to its effort to make inroads into overseas markets. The new i20 is a subcompact car that was first introduced to the European market at the Paris Motor Show last October Paris Motor Show and began to be sold in earnest. HMC’s European Design Center took care of the design and reflected the taste of local consumers. The i20 is in segment B where the competition is most intense in the European markets. The winning of this award is expected to increase its sales.

The Sorento was released in Korea last August and in the US in January 2015. It is scheduled to be launched in the European market sometime in the first half of this year. Based on its linear simplicity, it sports robust and confident exterior, and luxurious and elegant interior. Kia Motors has received the iF Design Awards for 6 consecutive years since the ‘Venga’ began the winning streak back in 2010, proving its global design competitiveness.

A Hyundai & Kia insider said, “We will accelerate our marketing efforts in the European market where our sales are expected to pick up with focus on these two cars that have proven designs.”
