Following Apple, Google released the function to trace the location of a lost Android smartphone. The new ‘Android Device Manager’ locates your smartphone and protects the data stored in it. This service will start this month.
This function is similar to ‘Find My iPhone’ which Apple introduced back in 2011. The person who picks up the lost smartphone may not return it, but if you don’t remember where you put it temporarily, this function will come in handy.
When the smartphone cannot be found as it is caught between the sofa cushions, the ring tone will be activated and it will be easily found. Even if you left it in a restaurant, etc., the map service will inform you where the smartphone is in real time. If you cannot find the lost smartphone or it is stolen, you can delete the personal information stored in the phone remotely to prevent secondary damage. “This function can be used in all versions after Android 2.2,” said Google. “To use this function, you must register your Google account.”
Apple will introduce more secure ‘Find My iPhone’ this fall with the release of iOS7. iPhone users will simply need to select this function and check the location in iCloud. If you cannot find your smartphone, you will turn it off and delete the data so that others cannot use or sell your smartphone. A message like ‘I lost my smartphone. Please return it to me.” can be displayed continuously on the first lock screen of the iPhone. However, the location of the smartphone cannot be shown on the map as it is against the law in Korea.

내 스마트폰 어디있지 구글 분실시 찾기 기능 추가
애플에 이어 구글이 안드로이드 스마트폰을 분실했을 때 위치를 추적하는 기능을 내놨다. 스마트폰 위치를 알려주고 저장된 데이터를 보호하는 새 `안드로이드 디바이스 매니저`가 주인공으로 이달 중 서비스를 시작한다.
이 기능은 지난 2011년 애플이 선보인 `내 아이폰 찾기(Find My iPhone)`와 유사하다. 분실한 스마트폰을 습득한 사람이 돌려주지 않을 수 있지만 어디에 뒀는지 잠시 기억이 안날 땐 유용한 기능이다.
스마트폰이 소파 쿠션 사이에 끼어있어 찾지 못할 때 벨소리를 작동시켜 쉽게 찾게 돕는다. 식당 등에 놓고 나왔을 때도 실시간으로 지도서비스에서 스마트폰의 위치를 알려준다. 분실한 스마트폰을 찾지 못하거나 도난당했을 때 저장된 각종 개인정보를 원격에서 삭제해 2차 피해를 방지한다. 구글 측은 “이 기능은 안드로이드 2.2 이상 버전에서 모두 사용할 수 있다”며 “이 기능을 이용하려면 구글 계정에 등록해야 한다”고 설명했다.
애플은 올 가을 iOS7 출시와 함께 보안이 강화된 `내 아이폰 찾기`를 선보인다. 아이폰 사용자는 아이클라우드에서 기능을 선택한 후 아이클라우드에서 위치를 확인하면 된다. 혹시 못 찾더라도 다른 사람이 내 스마트폰을 사용하거나 판매하지 못하게 스마트폰을 끄고 데이터를 지운다. 아이폰 첫 잠금화면에 `스마트폰을 잃어버렸어요. 돌려주세요.` 같은 메시지를 계속해서 띄울 수 있다. 단, 국내에서는 관련 법 저촉으로 지도에 위치를 표시하는 기능은 제공하지 않는다.
