On December 13 (local time), MIT Technology Review published an interview with Samsung Electronics’ chief strategy officer (CSO) Young Sohn. Since scouted by Samsung Electronics in September this year, he has been heading the company’s Strategy & Innovation Center located in Menlo Park, Silicon Valley.
In his interview, the CSO said that Apple is a very innovative company and Samsung Electronics’ major client and archrival at the same time. “I use Samsung’s products in the office but my iPhone, iPad and MacBook at home all the time,” he said, “That is not because Apple’s devices are excellent but because they are connected very closely in Apple’s ecosystem, which makes worldwide consumers feel convenient about purchasing Apple’s products and services like iCloud.”
He went on, “My company will supply more and more devices but its philosophy is quite device-centric as of now, which means its customers are experiencing the hardware, not the way they are connected.” He emphasized that Samsung needs to make further use of the open-source ecosystem in tandem with its partners to do more things down the road.
