" Intelligence Building System(IBS) of our own is much needed","80 percent of automatic control systems introduced in the domestic market including IBS is foreign made," said Baek, Kang-cheol(39), CEO of Daesung Control. He also pointed out "It`s better to work on localization rather than stick to the foreign made with little operating skills."

Baek has led his way just as he is called `IBS Doctor` among people. He has been an engineer, a CEO and a professor(Yuhan College) since the concept of Building Automation System(BAS) was first introduced in the mid 1980s. Recently he has commercialized IBS which is developed by himself and applied it to various facilities such as electricity, lighting, and security.

He is most enthusiastic about efficient on-site savings. He believes that replacing expensive system due to lack of operation skills and technology rather than fixing it not only is waste of resources but also lower competitiveness by raising cost.

He has delivered free lectures to on-site workers in telecommunication service industry and government organizations since 1999, emphasizing that making effort is essential to improve these circumstances. He plans to continue his lectures this year, too. He is going to select and visit 40 industrial sites to give workers free technical trainings.

"I have made this 10 year long-term training program in order to train professionals and return the technological achievement to the society," said Baek who has special interest in the development of Korean IBS. He is developing products with the Artificial Intelligence Team from a graduate school of industry as a member of the joint project led by the industry, the academy and the research.

"There are problems in the BASs currently installed and operated in most of buildings. One is that since BAS does not offer open protocol, only a sole service provider can inspect, fix and revise programs from installation throughout maintenance," said Baek. "Korean IBS must be the one that enables on-site operators to revise, convert, fix and inspect the system and also offers users communications software. Its price should be reasonable and the system not only will replace imported ones but also might be exported overseas," he added.
