Samsung Electronics is feeling out whether it should release 128GB Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge Plus. These two products are first being released in Korea on the 20th.
Lee Sang Chul, who is the head (Vice-President) of Samsung Electronics’ Strategic Marketing Department, met with Korean reporters at one of restaurants in New York and said that there aren’t any definite decisions made on whether Samsung Electronics is planning to release 128GB Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge Plus.
But because American mobile communication companies predicted release of 128GB models, there is an added weight on prediction that it will be released globally real soon.
Although Samsung electronics announced 32GB and 64GB Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge Plus models at Unpacked Event, it did not announce any 128GB models. Because Samsung Electronics removed micro SD slots in both of products, one cannot expand memory space by external drive. As number of multimedia contents increase, there is also an increase number of consumers that want mass memory space.
“By looking at current trend of Smartphones sales and pattern of consumers’ usages of memory, we first released 32GB and 64GB Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge Plus. Excluding these two products, we are going to finalize our decision on other products with different memory capacities by looking at demands from markets.” said Vice-President Lee.
It can be seen that Samsung Electronics removed micro SD slots to improve product designs and to make it look slimmer. Because there is a limitation of external drives, it can be a complaint for certain consumers who want Smartphones with mass memory due to large usage of contents. Due to this reason, Samsung Electronics is in a dilemma whether it should release 128GB model or not.
128GB Galaxy S6 series was released in Korea later than other countries because it made a decision by looking at the level of demand of 128GB models centered on game and video users. It is expected that Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge Plus will soon be released in other countries.
T-Mobile and Sprint’s homepages have options where one can choose 128GB models. It seems that its price will be $85 to $170 (100,000 to 200,000 KRW) more expensive than 32GB or 64GB models. Because there is a greater weight of usage of multimedia in foreign countries, there is a higher level of preference of products with mass memory than Korea.
“As an originator and a leader in Smartphones with large-screens, we wanted to expand usability and possibilities and increase range of choices for consumers. To repay for support that we received from customers on Dual-Edge Display Design that was first introduced in early 2015, we’ve released large-screens.” said Vice-President Lee in response to a question why Samsung Electronics decided to release both of these products at Unpacked Event.
“We planned for long time on these two products and worked hard on releasing them earlier to customers.” said Vice-President Lee in response to a question on why Samsung Electronics decided to push the release date of Galaxy Note 5 earlier and showing it to customers in the U.S. rather than IFA in Germany.
Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge Plus along with Samsung Pay will first be released in Korean market on the 20th. It is planning to release them in North America on the 21st, and its release date in European countries was scheduled in early September.
