The number of subscribers to the digital cable TV is increasing twice as faster as the previous years.The multi-system operators like CJ CableNet, C&M, T-Broad and Qrix are hailing the fast growth.Therefore, they are increasing their goal in subscribers, fixed in early this year.CJ CableNet begin to attract subscribers to its digital cable TV service. In last January, the number of subscribers reached 400,000 subscribers. It was able to attract 70,000 subscribers more within the past two months, increasing the number of subscribers to 470,000. It predicts that it will surpass 500,000 soon.It aims to attract 320,000 subscribers this year to surpass 700,000 in the number of overall subscribers in the end of this year. Based on the skyrocketing growth of subscribers, the company predicts that it could achieve its goal.C&M also attracted 50,000 subscribers more within the past two months. On average, it attracted 20,000 subscribers in a month. Compared with the last year’s performance that it attracted 10,000 subscribers monthly, the growth is more than a double, said the company. It analyzes that it could achieve its goal of attracting 300,000 subscribers to increase the number of the overall subscribers to 530,000.T-Borad plans to change its goal of surpassing 100,000 subscribers in the end of this year.President Huh Young-ho said, “In the end of the last year, the number of subscribers to the digital cable TV was only about 30,000. But, as of the middle of this month, the number surpassed 55,000. Such a growing trend will make us change our goal.”T-Broad began the massive marketing campaign to increase the number of subscribers to the digital cable TV service. On average, it attracts 800 subscribers in a day. It predicts that it will surpass 100,000 in the first half.In addition, HCN aims to surpass 100,000 in the overall subscribers in the end of this year. Qrix and CMB, which will begins the digital cable service in the second half, are also expected to add more subscribers to the growth of the digital cable service.If the growing trend maintains, the total number of the digital cable TV subscribers in Korea will become 2.5 million and even 2.7 million within this year, according to the prediction of the digital cable service operators.
