Government is investing 98 million dollars (108.5 billion KRW) into IoT demonstration project for 3 years. It is going to construct test sites in Daegu and Pusan and start 5 converged demonstration projects of Smart Home, security, car, medical treatment, and Smart Factory.

Ministry of Science, ICT, and Future Planning (MSIP) announced this information by holding ‘K-ICT IoT Demonstration Project Briefing Session’ at Pankyo Global R&D Center on the 24th.

IoT demonstration project is a large-sized demonstration project to develop new products and service by converging main type of businesses such as cars, health and medical treatment, cities, and factories to IoT infra or technology.

MSIP is planning to invest total of 98 million dollars (108.5 billion KRW) into total of 7 new IoT demonstration projects such as local government cooperative business (2 test sites) and industry cooperative business (5 converged demonstration projects) for 3 years. It is first going to carry out 30 million dollars (33.7 billion KRW) this year.

Looking at each business, KT is constructing healthcare test sites by working with Daegu Metropolitan City. These sites will act as a roll that connects demanding agency such as hospital and supplying agency such as healthcare. SK Telecom along with Pusan Metropolitan City are discovering IoT-based city-like new service model and helping with overseas expansion.

Korea Institute of Industrial Technology is developing Connected Smart Factory leading technology and promoting relevant specialized small and medium-sized companies. Korea Automotive Technology Institute is constructing service demonstration environment for Smart Cars. National Security Research Institute develops and verifies Smart Grid security technology, The Catholic University of Korea Seoul St. Mary’s Hospital develops and verifies Smart follow-up service for discharge patients with severe disease, and Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute is in charge of constructing demonstration environment and developing Smart Home open-type API.

“It is important for public and private businesses to cooperate to succeed in IoT demonstration project. We are going to focus on vitalizing converged industry through important converged demonstration projects in IoT such as household and home, energy, health and medical treatment, cars, cities, productions and factories.” 2nd Secretary Choi Jae Yoo of MSIP said about what businesses need to do to focus on success of demonstration project.

This investment is in charge of developing open-type linked API that is compatible for variety of Smart Home products and services. It is also in charge of constructing and operating demonstration environment (Test House). This investment is in charge of establishing Smart Car service demonstration environment to preoccupy Smart Car’s global market and verifying effectiveness and developing main service. This investment is in charge of developing and verifying CSF leading technology. It is promoting Korea’s CSF specialized small and medium-sized businesses through establishment of diffusion system.
