MExplorer commercialized parts with more than 99% graphene. It is the first in the industry to use more than 99% of graphene, considered as the dream material. Graphene parts will be used in global companies' audio equipment.

MExplorer developed graphene diaphragm for sound equipment speakers. Many companies have tried commercializing graphene, but they have not been able to overcome barriers such as technical difficulty and production cost.

Sung-Oong Kang, CEO of MExplorer, said “Several companies claim that they have commercialized graphene, but most of them only contain some graphene coatings and component. MExplorer was the first to be achieved the mass-production of 99% graphene electronic parts.”

The graphene diaphragm will be used on a global companies’ portable audio equipment. The diaphragm is a thin film-shaped component that converts negative current into sound. Existing diaphragms for small audio device are made of plastic. Some products adopted a method of coating graphene on a plastic diaphragm.

If more than 99% of the diaphragm is made with graphene, the sound quality will be dramatically improved. This is because graphene has a tensile modulus similar to a metal. The modulus of elasticity refers to the extent to which an object is stretched and deformed when stretched in both directions. Tensile modulus, one of the solid modulus of elasticity, has a crucial influence on the sound quality of the speaker diaphragm. Metal has a high tensile modulus and is optimized for high-quality sound quality. Expensive speakers are equipped with metal diaphragms for high-quality sound. However, it is difficult to adopt a metal diaphragm for a portable audio device due to the weight issue.

The portable sound devices had to be lightweight, so the sound quality level was low from using plastic diaphragms. MExplorer made a diaphragm out of graphene, which has a tensile modulus similar to that of a metal and has a light weight.

The graphene diaphragm has excellent separation and offset rates that determine sound quality. The separation rate means the degree to which several instruments are separated and heard clearly, and the offset rate means clear sound of multiple sounds from the same instrument is called.

MExplorer produces graphene by a liquid phase exfoliation method that separates the graphite carbon layer into graphene in liquid. It is a method optimized for mass production, and the price competitiveness is quite high.

MExplorer is expanding their business not only in the audio equipment parts business but also in graphene-applied products for lithium-ion batteries. They are cooperating with several domestic and foreign battery companies.

CEO Sung-Oong Kang said, “We will strengthen our global market with graphene parts that have dramatically improved the diaphragm of the existing portable sound equipment. By differentiating sound quality and serviceability, we will solidify our competitiveness.”

<Terminology> Graphene
It is the thinnest material from the carbon layer of graphite that is peeled off. It is 100 times stronger than iron, has more than 100 times of the silicon’s mobility, and double heat conduction of the diamond, so it is called a 'dream material'.
