NTS announced that it will complete the development of their new wafer grinding equipment, 'Edge Grinder' in May. The equipment grinds the outer diameter and edge of the 8-inch wafer with a diamond wheel. Wafers can be precisely processed into the size and shape desired by customers.

A key characteristic of NTS' 'Edge Grinder' is the minimal vibration, or load, that affects quality during wafer processing. According to Ye-won Sun, managing director of NTS, "The Edge Grinder uses precision CCD sensors to accurately identify wafer positions and wafer shapes,' and, "You can position the wafer with the work spin, and minimize the equipment load with the precision spin, which makes the production efficacy and speed greater than that of our competitors."

NTS had previously mass-produced a 6-inch Edge Grinder. Since its development last year, it has supplied 6-inch equipment to China's No. 1 semiconductor wafer company Zhonghua Semiconductor. More than 30 units of equipment will be supplied to global wafer manufacturers by the first half of this year due to recent additional orders. Sales are expected to hit between KRW 7-8 billion.

NTS is also pushing for negotiations to deliver 8-inch equipment. "We will gradually expand our market share of semiconductor grinding equipment through higher productivity and price competitiveness compared to competitors in the mainstream foreign equipment market, such as Japanese equipment," Sun said.

NTS is a South Korean equipment company that manufactures LED wafer grinding and polishing equipment. They provide equipment to South Korean companies such as Samsung Electronics, Seoul Semiconductor, and LG Display, as well as global companies such as Osram, HC Semitek, and Saman. It plans on becoming a semiconductor equipment company that specializes in pre-process as well as post-process package equipment.
