Intel has released the latest desktop central processing unit (CPU) '12thGen Intel Core (codename Alder Lake)'. They improved their performance by 19% compared to theirprevious processor and applied for the first time a 'hybrid architecture' that distributes and mixes different cores according to the operating environment. This new product is evaluated as Intel's 'winning move' in the CPU market to compete AMD, a rapidly rising competitor.

Intel introduced the 12th Gen Intel Core product line at the 'Intel Innovation' event held online on the 28th. The product will be released in a total of 6 types, including the industry's best gaming processor 'i-12900K'. The new product is the first CPU produced with the Intel 7 process (10nm enhanced Super Pin).

The core of the 12th Gen Intel Core is a hybrid architecture. It is characterized by integrating Performance Core and Efficient Core to maximize performance for each situation. Performance Core operates in high-performance work environments such as high-end games and high-capacity content production. Efficient Core focuses on efficiency to ensure uninterrupted work in a variety of work environments. It is a method of mixing Performance Core and Efficient Core depending on the working environment. Taking game streaming as an example, the Performance Core can run the game, and the Efficient Core can handle tasks such as chatting between users during the streaming process. This 12th Gen Intel Core is the first to adopt a hybrid architecture among Intel CPUs. Up to 16 cores are built-in with 8 performance cores and 8 speed cores.

Intel applied the thread director technology built into the core to quickly determine the task priority of the core with the operating system (OS) accordingly. It is to issue commands to the necessary cores according to the work situation. Intel Hybrid Architecture and Thread Director technology are known to be optimized for Microsoft (MS) Windows 11.

Through this, Intel improved the overall performance of the 12th Gen Intel Core by 19% compared to their predecessor (11th Gen Intel Core). Up to 100% (based on Adobe After Effects) performance improvement compared to its predecessor in the content creation environment. Intel explained that in the gaming environment, performance was improved by up to 28% (based on Hitman 3).

The launch of this new product is interpreted as Intel trying to compete against AMD in the desktop CPU market. Intel has been a traditional CPU powerhouse, but it has recently struggled in competition with AMD, which has advanced performance and price competitiveness. By Lowering the price of desktop CPU, they are also trying to counter AMD, which is rapidly expanding its market share.

12thGen Intel Core is to beat the AMD's pursuit with technology. In addition to the hybrid architecture, Intel plans to solidify its leadership in desktop CPUs with various strengths such as the industry's first DDR 5 and PCIe 5.0 support. In the future, they planto expand their market influence by expanding the range of applications for mobile laptops and ultra-thin laptops. A total of 60 12th Gen Intel Cores to be released in the future will be supplied to more than 500 products of Intel partner customers. In particular, the strategy is to actively target the gaming PC market.

Gregory Bryant, Intel Executive Vice President, said "The high-performance hybrid architecture of the 12th Gen Intel Core will deliver new levels of performance through architectural innovation with co-engineering of software and hardware.”
