New Gyeonggi Headquarters is expected to be utilized as an IT center as well. The Bank of Korea is currently looking into transferring DR center, which is in Daejeon, to Gyeonggi Headquarters.
Financial industry has a DR center to minimize any loss from disasters. If there is a disaster at the main center, other sub-centers located at other areas will recover main center’s service.
Commercial banks have DR centers in metropolitan cities while maintaining certain distance from DR centers to their main computer network centers so that real-time recovery can take place. For example, Shinhan Bank utilizes its data center in Ilsan as its DR center.
The Bank of Korea is also thinking about moving its DR center to a metropolitan city and it is expected to utilize two floors of Gyeonggi Headquarters. Part of its accounting and payment systems will also come with DR center. The Bank of Korea is considering about operating Gyeonggi Headquarters’ accounting and payment systems and Gangnam Headquarters’ accounting and payment systems as a type of dual-center.
“We are currently looking for a company that will be responsible for construction of our new Gyeonggi Headquarters and we are considering a plan that will add an IT center to Gyeonggi Headquarters.” said a representative for The Bank of Korea.
