LSD Tech (CEO Lee Ki-taek) is set to supply its high-performance servers to a large internet data center (IDC) of a global engineering business called Black & Veatch. Incidences where South Korean hardware manufacturers are supplying their products to IDCs of global businesses are rare.
LSD Tech, which specializes in SSD (Solid State Drive) servers, made an announcement that representatives such as CTO Brad Hardin and others visited LSD Tech and that they discussed about ways to deliver SSD-based HPC (High-Performance Computer) servers.
Black & Veatch is a business that constructs the most solar plants within the U.S and it has more than 35 years of constructing data centers. It recently started on data center construction business based on solar energy.
CTO Hardin met with South Korean companies and political and economic personnel and discussed about a project that will establish large-scale IDCs in South Korea. LSD Tech and Black & Veatch also discussed about constructing and operating super-computer centers in South Korea based on LSD Tech’s development skills in HPC and Black & Veatch’s ability to construct and operate large-scale IDC.
“Performance of our high-performance server is 50 times and 3 times greater than that of HDD (Hard Disk Drive) server and current SSD server respectively.” said CEO Lee Ki-taek of LSD Tech. “Our product can save up to 70% of entire energy consumption of an IDC.”

LSD Tech has secured various references in foreign countries as well. A group from Japan introduced LSD Tech’s SSD servers in 2016 and it was able to reduce timing it took to process Big Data, which took more than 8 hours with servers then, to just 20 minutes. Hyundai Home Shopping introduced LSD Tech’s servers last year to solve system failures of its servers then and it was able to stabilize its network by maintaining usage rate of CPU to about 5%.
LSD Tech’s server was the only domestic server that was selected as the standard server by S group. It completed performance verification process of IT service business’s server from S group. They finished discussing about establishing super-computing Cloud service with LSD Tech’s products. This service will be available starting from the second half of this year.
“Because our server can increase performance by 3 times, it is able to reduce size of an IDC by one-third and TCO (Total Cost of Ownership).” said CEO Lee. “We are going to make sure that our SSD servers will be the ones that will be used for mega IDC and super-computer center construction projects based on our experience with Black & Veatch.”
