Nexon’s management announced that it does not have any plans of connecting cryptocurrency with its games and breaking up its studios.
“We have zero plans of connecting our games with cryptocurrency.” said CEO Lee Jung-heon of Nexon Korea at a press conference that was held at its company building in Pangyo on the 25th. “We have to look at cryptocurrency separately from blockchain. We believe that blockchain can be applied to wide range of fields and that it has many elements that can be used for games.”
“We are not looking into breaking up our studios.” said Vice-President Jung Sang-won of Nexon Korea. Nexon carried out a reorganization in this month and combined development teams from its headquarters and subsidiaries into 7 studios.
Nexon Korea enhanced authority and responsibilities of the directors of 7 studios who are responsible for development of games respectively. “Our reorganization was focused on assuring autonomy and simplifying decision-making process.” said Vice-President Jung.
CEO Lee Jung-heon, Vice-President Jung Sang-won, and Vice-President Kang Dae-hyun of Nexon Korea were in attendance at this conference. Excluding Vice-President Jung, who has been a long-time member of Nexon, CEO Lee and Vice-President Kang are ‘new leaders’ that recently joined Nexon’s management team this year.

“I met with CEO Kim Jung-joo of NXC in Jeju Island after being notified that I was elected to become the CEO of Nexon in December of last year.” said CEO Lee. “CEO Lee asked me if Nexon will change if its sales dropped to 10% and I took it as him implying that Nexon needs to change its way of thinking.”
CEO Lee suggested that Nexon needs to focus on tasks that it is good at. “During a term of Nexon’s former CEOs, Nexon had made many attempts to secure diversities.” said CEO Lee. “During my term, Nexon is going to focus on tasks that it is good at within diversities that Nexon has secured.”
CEO Lee suggested putting out new global IPs (Intellectual Property) that follow ‘Dungeon & Fighter’ and ‘Maple Story’ as future goals for Nexon.
“I want to create games that will become candidates of GOTY (Game Of The Year).” said Vice-President Jung.
Vice-President Kang oversees Intelligence Lab, whish is Nexon’s Big Data and AI (Artificial Intelligence) group. “Nexon has accumulated many data by operating game business for past 20 years.” said Vice-President Kang. “We are focused on recycling and enhancing these data.” He is indicating that Nexon will look for dissatisfied points that are objectified through data and improve them.”
