Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics are making rapid progress in improving their competitive edge in automotive field which is chosen as their future driving force. Samsung Electronics has set a vision to become the best technical company in future automotive fields by 2025. LG Electronics has become the vice-chairman company for an international standardization organization related to cars.
Samsung Electronics held ‘Samsung Electronics 2017 Investors Forum’ at Shangri-La Hotel in Hong Kong on the 22nd and introduced its strategies on connected car markets.
This forum was composed of three sections and they were: its strategies on mobile services, connected cars, and flexible OLED. But out of these three sections, one section that definitely received most attention was its strategies on connected cars.
The announcement was made by Harman, which is a global electronic component manufacturer that was purchased by Samsung Electronics last year. Although the announcement was initially going to be made by President Phil Eyler, Corporate Communications Director Darrin Shewchuk made the announcement instead as Phil Eyler could not make it the forum due to flight issues.
“Union between Samsung Electronics and Harman is an ideal union and it will create synergy from every areas.” said Darrin. “Automotive field especially is a field that has huge potential.” He also announced a vision of Samsung Electronics and Harman by saying that they will work together towards becoming global leaders in connected car and self-driving car by 2025.”
He also introduced about synergy that will be created by Samsung Electronics and Harman.
Their strategy is to increase values of variety of fields such as Smartphone, TV, Smart Home, and parts by combining technologies and devices from Samsung Electronics and Harman. They are predicting that their effects will be huge in future automotive field where high-tech technologies are integrated. They chose digital driver seat, telematics and cyber security, end-to-end computing platform, UI (User Interface) and UX (User Experience), and self-driving technology and ADAS (Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems) as areas that they need to focus on.
“From an aspect of UX, currently UX based on Smartphone and UX based on car exist separately.” said Darrin. “However when future generation of connected cars unfolds, UX based on car will be part of UX based on Smartphone.”
This indicates that they can become the leaders in future markets for connected cars as Samsung Electronics which is currently the world’s best in UX based on Smartphone and Harman which is the world’s best in UX based on car join forces.
LG Electronics is also going to accelerate in its activities to become a leader of standards for future cars.
