Hyundai Motor Company and Kia Motors are going to prepare a place that can share most recent technologies such as self-driving technology, AI (Artificial Intelligence,) and Big Data in order to secure future automotive technologies. They especially invited many domestic and foreign IT companies such as IBM, Amazon, MS (Microsoft), MDS Technology, and Dassault Systemes with new technologies. By doing so, they have also increased a possibility of establishing Hyundai Motor Company’s united front for future automotive field.
According to industries on the 10th, Hyundai Motor Company is going to hold ‘New IT Technology Exhibition’ at its Namyang R&D Center, which is located in Hwasung, on the 18th.
Although Hyundai Motor Company had been holding exhibitions for new technologies every year since 2012 in order to strengthen its ability in development of software (SW), this is the first time when its exhibition is going to focus on future automotive technologies such as self-driving technology and AI. Its intention of trying to secure original technologies such as voice and image recognitions, Big Data, and data mining to implement self-driving technology and AI is applied to this exhibition.
This event will be divided into data mining, Machine and Deep Learning, Big Data, voice and image recognitions, intelligent IoT (Internet of Things), and VR (Virtual Reality), AR (Augmented Reality), and MR (Mixed Reality). 24 IT companies such as MS, IBM, Amazon, MDS Technology, and Dassault are going to participate in this event and share their technologies with others.
Technology that can increase ability of processing information based on data that is accumulated through voice and image recognitions while developing self-driving system by utilizing Machine Learning and Deep Learning will be introduced. Method that can increase self-driving performance by recognizing traffic situations and distances between cars through IoT will also be introduced.

MS is going to introduce high-tech AI-based chatbot called ‘Zo’ that optimizes automotive environment. Amazon is planning to introduce automotive design and simulation technologies that are based on voice and image recognition technologies. Frontis is going to introduce maintenance solution utilizing AR that is based on ‘HoloLens’ while MDS Technology is going to introduce self-driving development platform technology which utilizes Big Data and Machine Deep Learning solution.
“This event will also be a place to share high-tech ICT (Information Communication Technology) trends such as self-driving technology and AI with group researchers.” said a representative for Namyang R&D Center. “It is set up to share directions of evolution of future automotive technologies and to focus on securing future competitive edge.”
Automotive industries will be divided into self-driving cars, eco-friendly vehicles such as electric vehicles, and connected cars in the future. It is at a point where engine, which is the heart of a car, is quickly being replaced with motor. Hyundai Motor Company is focusing on securing new automotive technologies in order to secure leadership in the future and it is quickly changing its R&D, which used be the base for Hyundai Motor Company’s subsidiaries and partners, to an open innovation method. It is believed that Hyundai Motor Company invited many IT companies to this exhibition in order to have variety of partnership and to secure convergence technologies in the future.
“Automotive industry is a major industry that will have the most changes in next 10 years.” said a representative for an automotive industry. “In order to secure leadership in automotive field in the future, it is very important for an automotive manufacturer to work with IT companies so that they can combine two different kinds of technologies.”
