LG Electronics sold 7.3 million Smartphones in the U.S. in first quarter and recorded its biggest market share. Because this is a result before it has released G6 in the U.S., it is expecting rapid growth in second quarter.
Market research company called Strategy Analytics (SA) announced on the 7th (U.S. time) that LG Electronics sold 7.3 million Smartphones in the U.S. in first quarter and that it recorded market share of 20%.
LG Electronics’ market share increased by about 3% since last year. This is the first time when LG Electronics recorded 20% of higher of market share in the U.S. By widening difference in market share with ZTE (6.7%) which is in the fourth place, it has solidified itself as the third place followed by Apple (34.5%) and Samsung Electronics (24.6%).
LG Electronics recorded market share of 19.6% in entire North American market including the U.S. and Canada by selling 7.6 million Smartphones. This is also its biggest market share in North American market.
This performance by LG Electronics is seen as the result of steady sales of its premium Smartphone called V20, which was released in second half of last year, and constant popularity from its low and middle-end Smartphones such as K series and X series. Some also say that LG Electronics benefited from discontinuation of Galaxy Note 7. It is expected that sales volume of its Smartphones will be even bigger when LG Electronics begins to sell G6 in second quarter.
Apple sold 12.6 million Smartphones in the U.S. in first quarter and recorded market share of 34.5%. Its market share increased from last year when it recorded 32.2%. Samsung Electronics sold 9 million Smartphones and recorded market share of 24.6%. Its market share decreased by about 3% from last year when it recorded 27.5%.
North American market is seen as the world’s biggest market for premium Smartphones. SA announced that North American region was accounted for 10.9% of global Smartphone markets in first quarter.
