GLB Tech Co., Ltd., which is a company specializing in LED lights, is going to supply its LED lights to factories of Volvo located in the U.S. It is unprecedented that a small and medium company is delivering its LED lights to a global automotive manufacturer. Starting with Volvo, GLB Tech Co., Ltd. is planning to win orders from other global automotive manufacturers.
GLB Tech Co., Ltd. announced on the 1st that it is going to supply its ultra-high color rendering LED lights to Volvo’s new factories in the U.S. for inspecting painting of cars. It was first selected as a supplier in last November and provided samples in this February. It received positive comments in April after Volvo tested its samples and it is going to start mass-producing initial supplies in this month.
Painting of cars is a process where car bodies are colored with paint sprays. Lights are very important in evaluating concentration of color and chrome. Inspection process that precisely inspects clogging of color and dirt after colors are sprayed with machines also needs to be done.
Reason why Volvo chose GLB Tech Co., Ltd. as a supplier is because GLB Tech Co., Ltd.’s products have CRI (Color Rendering Index’ and eco-friendly products. CRI is a value that shows how much artificial light source can express body color as standard light source. CRI 100 is usually seen as the sunlight and one can see that artificial light is closer to natural light as its CRI value is closer to 100.
Because cars are driven outdoor, lights that have CRI values close to 100 are needed in order to evaluate quality of colors.
Volvo had been using mercury lamp or fluorescent lamp as light to inspect painting. Compared to regular LED lights, mercury lamp and fluorescent lamp have higher CRI values and are cheaper. However industries have been suggesting the need for more eco-friendly products as they are harmful to environment.
“Until now, many automotive manufacturers have been using traditional lights such as fluorescent lamp or halogen lamp in order to inspect painting of cars.” said CEO Choi Young-sik of GLB Tech Co., Ltd. “However because many major countries including South Korea are limiting use of mercury lamp as they are harmful to environment, current trend has automotive manufacturers using LED lights to inspect their products.”
GLB Tech Co., Ltd. has developed high color rendering LED light source technology that utilizes blue chip for the first time in the world. It has secured unparalleled technology that implements more than 90 CRI values in all range of spectrum (R1 – R15). Currently most of LED lights that are distributed on markets have CRI values lower than 80.
Starting with Volvo, GLB Tech Co., Ltd. is looking to expand its business to other major global automotive manufacturers.
“LED markets with higher color representation will continue to grow.” said CEO Choi. “We are going to bear meaningful fruits markets for lights that inspect painting of cars from major global automotive manufacturers.”
