Coweaver (CEO Hwang In-hwan) is releasing its 10-tera-level POTN (Packet Optical Transport Network) and is planning to go face-to-face against foreign companies that are controlling markets for POTN.
POTN is an equipment that processes optical transport and circuit and packet services through a single transport device. It responds to demands of services that are based on IP and strengthens optical transport function and packet processing function. Because it simplifies a formation of a network, it is suitable for telecommunication services and is seen as a necessary equipment for 5G network infrastructures, IoT, and data analysis of Big Data.
Growth of markets for POTN is clear as certain mobile network providers are establishing their network by using POTN equipment as part of demonstration.
“We are working hard to develop POTN equipment by working with ETRI (Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute.” said Coweaver on the 18th. “We are planning to commercialize it during first half of 2017.”
Coweaver was able to obtain technical skills in development of POTN from its experiences in developing MSPP (Multi-Service Provisioning Platform), PON (Passive Optical Network), PTN (Packet Transport Network), and ROADM (Reconfigurable Optical Add-Drop Multiplexer) equipment.
Its MSPP and ROADM equipment were recognized by foreign markets as they were supplied to Myanmar for its project of expanding its backbone network and it is also going after new markets such as India.
Coweaver is using its years of experiences in R&D into developing its next-generation transport equipment such as POTN. When it finishes developing POTN, it will be able to secure new transport network and diversify its portfolio.
Its plan is to go after mobile network providers and organizations’ transport network by introducing its transport equipment to markets that are controlled by foreign-made POTN equipment.
Its major target is area of access that connects final users and telecommunication businesses’ backbone network. It is also considering testing its prototype for performance verification and at National Information Society Agency’s KOREN network.
“We are going to prove that our equipment is just as good as foreign-made equipment.” said a representative for Coweaver.
