Accumulated sales of LG’s washing machines has surpassed 150 million.

After releasing its first domestic washing machine called ‘Swan (Model name: WP-181)’ in 1969, LG Electronics made an announcement on the 20th that it had sold 150 million washing machines for 47 years until end of February.

As LG Electronics is looking to rapidly enter foreign markets after releasing drum washing machines in the U.S. market in 2003 for the first time, it is currently doing washing machine business in 160 countries. From 2007 to 2015, LG Electronics is holding the top position in the U.S. drum washing machine market.

If 150 million washing machines are stacked on top of each other, its height is more than 130,000 km and about 15,000 times of Mount Everest (8848m) and it can cover diameter of the earth more than 3 times. It is also a distance that is equal to 1,000 tracks of a beltway around Seoul (128km).

LG Electronics had produced more than half of accumulated sales from Changwon. Including South Korea, LG Electronics is currently producing washing machines in 9 countries such as China, Russia, India, Vietnam, Thailand, Poland, Brazil and Mexico. Based on last year’s output, there are more drum washing machines than auto washing machines.

A reason why LG Electronics’ washing machines have been receiving never-ending love from global customers is due to innovation of its differentiated technologies based on endless research. LG Electronics had introduced variety of new technologies such as ‘Direct Drive’ technology-based washing machines, which are world’s first washing machines that have their motors and laundry buckets connected, industry’s first steam and allergy care technology, ‘Turbo Wash’ that greatly reduces laundry time by spraying strong jet of water onto laundry water, ‘Twin-Wash’ washing machines, which are world’s first washing machines that have TongDoLi washing machines on the bottom of drum washing machines and other technologies.

LG Electronics is planning to lead both quantitative increase and qualitative growth in washing machine business. It is going to sequentially release Twin-Wash, which was released in South Korea and the U.S. last year, in Asia including China, South America, Europe and others.

“LG Electronics is making a new history of washing machines.” said Director (President) Cho Sung-jin of LG Electronics’ H&A (Home Appliance & Air Solution) Business Headquarters. “As a global washing machine leader, we are going to continuously introduce innovative products and services that are loved and trusted by our customers.”
