Lee Seo Hyun Becomes Director of Samsung C&T Corporation’s Fashion Section and Ko Dong Jin Becomes Head of Wireless Business Department
Samsung Electronics chose change in generation based on stability. Head and eputy head of Future Strategy Office and CEO of Samsung Electronics remained in office. Vice-President Ko Dong Jin, who was a main person in bringing back popularity for Galaxy series, was promoted to president and took control of Wireless Business Department. Because Household Appliances Business Department is planning to appoint new head of its business shortly, it is planning a change through young leaders.
Samsung announced on the 1st about its periodic personnel change for presidents for 2016 in total of 15 people by promoting 6 people to presidents, 1 person to vice-president, and transferring 8 people. None of the owners or vice-chairmen were promoted, and this year’s personnel change was big considering a fact that only 3 people were promoted to presidents last year. Out of 7 people who were promoted, 5 of them were born in 60’s.
President Lee Seo Hyun, who is second daughter of Chairman Lee Kun Hee and responsible for Samsung C&T’s Fashion Section’s Management Plan, became Director (President) of Samsung C&T’s Fashion Section. President Yoon Ju Hwa of Samsung C&T’s Fashion Section was transferred to become President of Samsung Society Contribution Committee.
In overall, it can be seen that Samsung chose stability rather than change. Because business reorganization such as selling of chemical and thales sections and integration of Samsung C&T was huge, Samsung tried to minimize personnel change.
“Samsung selected young leaders based on technology within stability.” said a high-ranking official from Samsung. “While maintaining major affiliates and Future Strategy Office as major posts, it is going to push for optimization of major businesses and development of new businesses at the same time.”
Samsung Group’s control tower Future Strategy Office is maintaining a system based on Head Choi Ji Sung and Deputy Head Jang Choong Gi and only promoted 2 people to presidents.
Although Samsung Electronics is maintaining 3 Director System of Kwon Oh Hyun, Yoon Bu Geun, and Shin Jong Kyoon, each president is stepping down from head of department position that they were serving additional post for. Vice-Chairman Kwon Oh Hyun, President Yoon Bu Geun, and President Shin Jong Kyoon are stepping down from director of Advanced Institute of Technology, head of Household Appliances Business Department, and head of Wireless Business Department positions respectively.
Vice-President Ko Dong Jin, who brought fame for Galaxy series, was promoted to become Head of Wireless Business Department. President Ko, who was responsible for leading development of flagship models such as Galaxy S6, Note 5 and others, was given as task to do the same thing for Smartphone business that is currently stagnant.
Head of Household Appliances Business Department will be appointed from personnel change for vice-presidents that will take place shortly. Team Leader Kim Sang Hak of Household Appliances Development Team, Team Leader Park Byung Dae of Household Appliances Strategic Marketing Team, and Bae Kyung Tae who is in charge of Samsung Electronics Corporation Korea are mentioned as candidates. A reason why new personnel was appointed to become head of business department is because it is Samsung’s groundwork to renovate atmosphere and lead 2nd launch.
Integrated Samsung C&T changed from 4 CEOs System to 3 CEOs System of President Choi Chi Hoon of Construction Section, President Kim Shin of Trading Section, and President Kim Bong Young of Resort Construction Section.
Based on a principle that rewards people based on their performance, people who showed positive results in development of new technologies and businesses were promoted. President Ko Dong Jin led development of flagship models such as Galaxy S6, Note 5 and others, and Director (President) Jung Chil Hee of Advanced Institute of Technology was one of people that brought boom for semiconductor business. President Ko Han Seung who created new businesses in bio field that was a wasteland and President Han In Kyu who contributed in expanding Duty Free Shop business in South Korea and other countries were also recognized of their performance. Vice-President Sung Yeol Woo who is Team Leader of Future Strategy Office’s Legal Affair Team and Vice-President Jung Hyun Ho who is Team Leader of Personnel Team were promoted to president position together.
After personnel change for presidents, Samsung is going to carry out periodic personnel change for 2016 for positions under vice-president.
