Suspect Is Swipe Function That Works Even If A Phone Is Off

“You have entered wrong password for your account 5 times in a row.”

Salary man with a last name Kim in his 30’s was so shocked when he was withdrawing money from a ATM because he was not able to pull out money due to wrongly entering passwords 5 times. It was the same for other ATMs, and even his internet banking was not working. Fortunately he was able to solve a problem after visiting a bank branch.

What was the problem? He first was suspicious of a crime such as hacking and others, but his money was still in his account. A suspect (?) was actually ‘Samsung Pay’. As swipe function was working while his phone was in his pocket, it turned on Samsung Pay and caused so-called ‘Thigh Swipe’.

Swipe is a function that turns on Samsung Pay even when a phone is turned off by swiping a home button up. Because a screen does not need to be turned on, Samsung Pay’s level of convenience stands out even more.

A problem occurs when Samsung Pay turns on unwantedly as a thigh is swept within a pocket that turns on swipe function. Due to this, a problem like passwords of banking accounts that are within Samsung Pay being pushed on its own happens. Of course an owner of a cellphone realizes this situation later because it happens inside a pocket.

Unlike earlier time, Samsung Pay recently had made it so that a swipe function can be turned off. It can be done so by turning off ‘turn-off screen’ by clicking more – setting – simple pay. Luckily there are not that many people that voice their levels of inconvenience about ‘Thigh Swipe’ since there are only about 1 million Samsung Pay members.

Right now it is a level where it is mentioned only in few online communities. However there is a high chance that there will be more people who will feel more inconvenient if a number of Smartphones that support Samsung Pay is increased.

Although swipe function needs to be turned off to solve this inconvenience, it turns off Samsung Pay’s one of the most convenient functions.

“This episode happened because Samsung Pay is too convenient to use. It seems that Samsung Electronics needs to develop a technology so that a touch function does not occur when a phone is touched over a thin clothing.” said a person in telecommunication industry.
