An electric car with solar power generator on its roof is coming out soon. Driving capability and using other functions such as navigation were lacking in power with mere battery source, but now it will be improved.

Electric car sharing company Hancar announced on the 2nd that they have developed solar power (190w level) solution for electric vehicle and will be releasing them. Electric car with this solution uses the charged battery power for driving and car engine but uses the electric power created from sunlight panel for lighting, air/heat conditioning, navigation and black box, and other additional power requiring functions

Normal electric car (battery capacity being 20~24㎾h) can be driven for about 140km when charged full in theory, but because the driver uses other necessary functions of the car, the actual driven mileage was about 100km.

Hancar’s solar power solution attaches 190w level solar power module onto the roof of the car. It has the electronic control unit (ECU) technology that parallel charges the charging circuit and auxiliary/main battery. It is consisted of charge control system and exclusive inverter.

Hancar claims that with this solar power solution, driver may use electronic devices in the car freely and increasing the driving distance by about 10%. It is very eco-friendly advancement.

This company’s solar power solution provides power to auxiliary and main battery via automatic control technology. Auxiliary battery for car (12V·65A) takes 6 hours to charge, and about 160 hours for the main battery (20㎾h).

If used with the car battery, the car can run 14km more each day.

Hancar plans to produce assembled version of the car so that they can target not just normal electric car but electric taxi, truck, bus, etc.
