Light Emitting Diode (LED) business is creating a united front with the communication carrier in order to take leadership in securing LiFi technology. Recently Japan and US companies have started commercializing it and it seems that have sparked the domestic companies to speed up as well. The development and growth of Internet of Things (IoT) will fasten the commercialization of LiFi technology.
The company that is trying secured the LED LiFi technology is LED chip/package manufacturing company. Not only big enterprises and minor enterprises are allying each other for strategic technology but communication carriers and foreign companies are as well. The range for research also has expanded beyond just military purposes, vehicles, and ships.
LiFi technology uses LED luminous source, transferring data at an ultra-speed via light. With just LED lighting, internet can be used anywhere. Theoretically, it can process at 100 times faster than WiFI. Smartphones with LiFi light sensors attached will soon be made. Samsung, LG, and other phone manufacturing companies are very interested in the technology as well.
LED industry is positive toward LG Innotek’s technology development. LG Innotek had made technological alliance with the YUYANG D&U that has successfully commercialized LiFi technology last year. In short term, Their goal is to apply the technology to LED light and create a technique to apply to cars and IoT field.
LG Innotek explained, “The needed technologies are almost all gathered and we plan to apply and expand them onto wireless light control system. We are also in pursue of developing other applications as well.”
Semicon Light, the leader in flip-chip LED technology, recently is developing the highly functional LiFi technology. The company has reached out to domestic communication carriers and Japanese company for research purpose
Chairman Eunhyun Park of Semicon Light said, “We are focused on developing ultra-speed technology development. As we have the most important manufacturing technology for LED chip functions, we are confident in gaining LiFi technology as well.”
Exploration to secure LiFi technology among the major enterprises is very competitive. Communication carriers and IoT service companies have high interest.
