[MWC 2015]SK Telecom, KT, and LG U+ Korea’s three main telecommunication companies are to show 5 Generation(5G) and IoT(Internet of Things) technologies in priority at the ‘Mobile World Congress(MWC) 2015.’

KT(Chairman Chang-gyu Hwang) will demonstrate next generation telecommunication technologies and IoT technologies under the theme of ‘Life Innovation by 5G.’

Among the new technologies, the most noteworthy is the ‘Millimeter Wave,’ which was jointly developed with Samsung Electronics. Using a frequency range of 28㎓, the speed of data transmission is made 100 times faster than the existing Long Term Evolution(LTE).

There is also much attention towards the ‘5G Ultra Dense Network(UDN),’ which is a collaboration with Ericsson Inc. Various forms of small cells are built based on KT’s world-class level fiber optic infrastructure, which makes accommodating more than 100 times as much users as before possible. This is useful in crowded places such as sports grounds.

Besides these, △‘Smart Show Window’ utilizing the Device to Device(D2D) technology △9 Carrier Aggregation(CA) which facilitates a speed of 1Gbps by binding 9 frequencies of 20㎒ together △ LTE-TDD Downlink(DL)·Uplink(UL) CA jointly developed with Nokia, and more are to greet spectators.

SK Telecom(President Dong-hyun Jang) presents ‘5G Life’ including 5G network, 5G platform, and IoT devices based on these technologies, under the theme of ‘A Journey to a New Innovation World.’

SK Telecom also demonstrates the Millimeter Wave technology, which can achieve a speed of 7.55Gbps at the highest. The company predicted that once this technology is commercialized, ‘Immersive Media,’ vivid as if one has experienced teleportation, will be available.

‘Quantum Key Distribution,’ which is considered the most perfect communication security technology in existence, is being displayed for the first time overseas. This technology uses principles of quantum mechanics to cut off all sources of hacking of data that is in transmission. Demonstration equipments for commercialization are expected to be completed by the second half of this year, if early.

Also, Five Grand Platforms that make 5G available for active use in everyday life through the 5G network—IoT·Location Based Service·Intelligent·Commerce·Big Data—are to be presented. Various IoT devices are being revealed, as well, including the SmartBand which checks the amount of activity and the ‘Smart Hearing Aid’ which gets rid of fringe areas.

LGU+(Vice Chairman Sang-chul Lee) will attract customers with Home IoT and 5G technology, with a vision of ‘New Life Creator,’ meaning the creator of a new life.

Focusing on the keyword of the IoT strategy, ‘me-centric,’ 5 Great Strategic Services is being displayed, including the Home Manager, the Magic Mirror, and LTE radio.

‘Downlink Cooperative Multi-Point, Dynamic Point Selection,’ an LTE-A technology that controls frequency interference, and ‘Downlink 256 QAM’ which speeds up download speeds are to be demonstrated for the first time ever, jointly with Nokia. Downlink CoMP, DPS is a next generation network technology which locates and transmits optimum frequency quality even among peripheral base stations where there is little smartphone access.

Besides, 5G technologies utilizing the millimeter wave band with a high frequency of 30~300㎓ are to be demonstrated, as well.
