Samsung Display will start A3 Plant in Asan, Chungcheongnam-do for flexible organic light emitting diode (OLED) production in the second quarter. As for the 10G line extension, which is for large-screen TV panel production, the company will decide investment by observing market conditions.

According to Samsung Display on the 29th, it had announced at the Samsung Electronics’ conference call for performances in the fourth quarter that it was setting up a new flexible line with a goal to start the line operation within the second quarter of this year. Until then, the company plans to produce flexible panels from the existing A2 line. Samsung Display explained that it would not have any problem supplying products to customers with which it had made prior arrangements using the existing line.

Samsung Display is equipped with a 5.5G (1300  1500mm) flexible OLED line (A2) to produce 8,000 panels a month. Once A3 operation is started, the company can additionally produce 6G (1500  1850mm) panels by 15,000 a month.

The company has not yet confirmed a 10G investment plan to produce panels for large-screen TVs measuring 65” or higher. Samsung Display announced that its primary goal is to produce large-sized LCD panels using the existing 8G line. According to a company insider, Samsung Display will decide investment for the 10G line extension after observing the market conditions.
