Closed circuit TV (CCTV) camera, which was used as a security and monitoring system, is evolving into an intelligent network (IP) camera according to the embedded software development. Solutions suitable for logistical and distribution markets, such as those to improve marketing efficiency by analyzing floating population in stores, are being introduced one after another. The basis of indoor customer information analysis is forecast to expand from the previous Beacon to IP cameras.

According to the industry on the 29th, Korea’s leading security solution developers UDP Technology and CORECELL have embarked on market expansion by introducing solutions to utilize visual information in marketing. UDP Technology has mounted its independently developed intelligent image analysis software on an IP camera, and thus provides an image analysis function together with metadata. When a problem occurs following an image analysis, customers of this company can aim for marketing efficiency maximization by utilizing the image data as opposed to a warning issue in the existing system.

“This camera enables users to count the number of people and identify their movement lines. The data can be utilized as marketing information,” said UDP Technology CEO Ahn Jeog-geun. “The information obtained by analyzing for how many hours people stay in a store can be used as a basis for the store location change or service improvement.” Based on the expertise and experience of supplying an intelligent image analysis solution to 7-Eleven stores in the U.S. in 2012, UDP Technology will start targeting the domestic private market in the New Year.

CORECELL is also preparing for a solution supply with a focus placed on marketing so as to have intelligent IP camera solutions utilized in the private market. CORECELL CEO Hong Seung-gwon said, “With object recognition function, we will start expanding marketing as well as security markets,” In particular, to handle the issues concerning portrait rights, CORECELL has introduced a solution that provides a function to automatically mask visual data containing images of people.

The industry’s attention is drawn to whether or not near-field communication inside the existing stores will bring changes to their marketing strategies. The related markets are forecast to grow as a strategy for marketing efficiency maximization using intelligent IP cameras is applied together with customer data analysis based on Beacon. “Marketing through wireless communication can provide store information and coupon issuing service. At the same time, visual data on customers can be utilized as a principal means of marketing,” said an industry source. “The demand for intelligent IP camera will grow as companies try to secure visual information in order to obtain more accurate customer data.”
