Daehyun ST develops and mass-produces ‘high-efficiency, heat-dissipating tapes’ that solve problems with semiconductor heat generation. A new characteristic feature is that it has doubled the performance of temperature reduction compared to existing heat-dissipating tapes. The company plans to target the semiconductor manufacturing market that focuses on highly-integrated and high-performance semiconductors with heat control.

Daehyun ST announced that it has developed a high-efficiency, heat-dissipating tapes that can minimize the heat generated from 'display driver IC' (DDI).

It is a chip on film (COF) type that is attached to a semiconductor, which can be applied to products during semiconductor packaging. Daehyun ST plans to supply DDI with heat-dissipating tapes to display manufacturers through a domestic semiconductor back-end process company. The company is in full swing for preparation for mass-production.

Daehyun ST CEO Ju-heung Eom said on the 11th, “We have completed the contract for supplying products after receiving recognition from our customers for the performance of highly-efficient heat-dissipating tapes. It is a product that has been researched and developed for two years with company’s specialized tape technology. The supply for the product will begin starting next year.”

Daehyun ST focuses in special tapes for industries such as mobile, display, and semiconductor. The company has secured localization of special industrial tapes that have been dependent on the US and Japan for some time. A typical example is a heat-resistant tape for printed circuit boards (PCBs). In 2019, the company succeeded in localizing heat-dissipating tapes for semiconductors for the first time in Korea, and is providing the products to semiconductor back-processing companies.

The high-efficiency, heat-dissipating tapes developed has significantly improved heat-dissipating performance from the existing 20-30% to over 40%. The heat- dissipating tapes for semiconductors serves to lower the temperature from heat generated by the semiconductor chip. It is a film-type semiconductor heat sink. It is possible to reduce the size since the tape is thinner than the heat sink. The reduced size allows the tape to be applied in thin products such as displays.

The amount of signals processed by the DDI has increased recently as the display has become high-definition and high-performance. The heat-control is necessary as it is vulnerable to high temperature. Some DDIs can reach 100 degrees or higher when running, but the temperature of DDIs can be lowered to 60 degrees when a high-efficiency, heat-dissipating tape is applied. It can be applied not only to DDIs but also to various semiconductors that require heat-control.

Daehyun ST plans to diversify profit channels by using special tapes for semiconductors as a new driving force. Daehyun ST's main businesses are mobile, display, and batteries. The company has laid the foundation for expanding its presence in information technology (IT) and electronic materials by strengthening the special tape business for semiconductors. Daehyun ST completed the development of new tapes with their special functions other than heat dissipation, and are preparing for them to be patented. It is an opportunity to reduce dependence on specific businesses with a strategy of diversifying product portfolio.

CEO Eom said, “Based on our technology and experience in localizing special industrial tapes, we plan to prepare new products, and make efforts to expand and apply them to various applications (apps). Identifying customers’ demands, we plan to develop and commercialize specialized tape technology necessary for industrial sites.”
