The Ioniq 5 is the first model to be equipped with Hyundai Motor Group’s E-GMP (Electric-Global Modular Platform). It comes with two-wheel drive and it is also available in four-wheel drive. It is also the world’s first electric vehicle to be applied with V2L (Vehicle to Load) technology that allows electricity stored in the battery to be used freely and it can provide up to 24 kWh electricity.
Unlike other electric vehicles of the group, the Ioniq 5 is equipped with cameras instead of side mirrors and does not have a gearbox which allows free movement between the driver seat and passenger seat. Its unconventional design that allows front seats to be reclined in 180 degrees and others is the model’s feature that differentiates it from other electric vehicles. It is also excellent for car camping and it can be utilized as a replacement for diesel generator that is used for food trucks and event trucks.
It is also the first South Korean electric vehicle to support 350kW ultra-fast chargers and it has every ADAS (Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems) that Hyundai Motor Company has. It supports real-time firmware update (Over-the-air) and the industry’s first contactless charging service through “car pay”. It also has a highway driving assist feature called “HDA2” that supports semi-autonomous driving and is equipped with a 44-inch AR (Augmented Reality) HUD (Head-up Display).
Out of all electric vehicles that are currently sold globally, the model is seen as an electric vehicle with excellent performance compared to its price as it has an excellent driving performance, advanced safety and convenience features, and a huge interior space.
Its length, width, and height are 4,640, 1,890, and 1,600 millimeters respectively that are similar to that of Hyundai’s compact crossover SUV “Tucson”. On the other hand, its wheelbase that determines a car’s interior space is about 3,000 millimeters that is longer than that of Hyundai’s three-row SUV “Palisade (2900 mm)” and Hyundai’s mid-size sedan “Grandeur (2,885 mm)”.
