Samsung SDS is recognized for its AI technology by sweeping first places from domestic and foreign AI competitions.
Samsung SDS’ AI model for understanding and learning natural language recently won first places from a competition associated with HotpotQA and competitions related to “KorQuAD (Korean Question Answering Dataset) 1.0” and “KorQuAD 2.0”.
“HotpotQA” is a dataset developed by Carnegie Mellon University, Stanford University, and the Montreal Institute for Learning Algorithms. Samsung SDS’ AI model won the first place from “HotpotQA Fullwiki Setting” that involves finding answers from the entire Wikipedia and has the highest degree of difficulty. Because the test requires AI model to present an answer that is made up of at least two sentences to the question, it requires AI models to have abilities to make a high level of logical reasoning.
KorQuAD 1.0 is a test for AI model to read limited information and provide the exact answer to a proposed question. KorQuAD 2.0 involves finding answers from the entire Korean Wikipedia and it requires a lengthy answer based on accurate understanding of sentences. Samsung SDS’ model became the first ever model to record a score that surpassed a human level.
Samsung SDS had 11 of its papers adopted by global AI conferences this year. In September, its paper on reinforcement learning method for optimizing design, manufacturing, and distribution processes of products was adopted by one of the most prestigious AI conferences “NeurlIPS 2020”.
“We are going to continue to conduct studies on AI technology and hire talented individuals in order to actively support our customers with digital transformation.” said Lee Sang-wook who is the director of Samsung SDS Research Center.
Meanwhile, Samsung SDS will hold the third “Techtonic 2020” on November 12. This event, which will take place online, will feature various presentations and discussions about research and development knowhow and examples of applications of core technologies such as AI, blockchain, cloud, data analysis, and security. Registration to participate in the event will begin on October 28 on Samsung SDS’ homepage.
