Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics are making rapid progress in American Smartphone markets.
According to a report from a market research company called Strategy Analytics, Samsung Electronics sold 9.9 million phones in America during this third quarter. Its sales volume increased by 200,000 compared to third quarter of last year and its market share improved by 0.9% from 24.2% in 2016 to 25.1% in 2017.
LG Electronics sold 6.8 million phones during the same quarter. It sold 6.5 million phones during third quarter of last year. Its market share also improved by 1% from 16.2% to 17.2%.
On the other hand, Apple sold 12 million phones during the same quarter and its sales volume decreased by 1 million from last year’s sales volume during third quarter which was 13 million. Although its market share remained at the top at 30.4%, it is lower by 2.1% compared to its market share during third quarter of last year (32.5%).
It seems that positive sales of ‘Galaxy Note 8’ and ‘LG V30’ that were released during third quarter are contributing to positive performance by Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics. Apple’s performance during this third quarter may be due to how iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus were released at the end of September and how their sales were relatively low due to potential demands for iPhone X.
China’s ZTE (11.6%) and Motorola (5.2%) placed fourth and fifth places respectively. ZTE’s sales volume increased from 3.6 million to 4.6 million while Motorola’s sales volume increased from 1.1 million to 2.1 million. Both of these businesses’ market shares also increased compared to third quarter of last year.
Out of top five businesses in American Smartphone market, Apple was the only one that saw its sales volume and market share reduced during third quarter. Market share of other Smartphone manufacturers is 10.5% and it is reduced by about 5% compared to last year.
