A domestic extra high-voltage cable laid under the ground will be exported to the U.S. for the first time.

Daewoo International and Taihan Electric Wire announced that it had won a contract for a 500kV underground extra high-voltage cable supply project to a scale of approximately $35 million in Los Angeles, U.S. on the 20th (local time).

This project, which is to build a new power network covering the areas of Chino Hills in California, U.S., was ordered by SCE, a power transmission agency. Taihan Electric Wire will supply cables and joints and handle installation on site and Daewoo International will provide overall management for the project.

500kV extra high-voltage cable is a top-grade ground wire. In Korea, Taihan Electric Wire is the only company holding track records of the cable production. Internationally, only some European and Japanese companies can design and produce this cable. Therefore, the added value is relatively higher.

Extra high-voltage cable project is a power infrastructure project requiring not only successful product supply, but also specialized installation competency. The supply and installation experiences and performances are very important. Daewoo International and Taihan Electric Wire have set up a goal to dominate the North American market growing rapidly as a result of increased power demand and outdated power network replacement by taking this project acquisition as an opportunity. The companies also anticipate that this project will serve as a bridgehead for their winning additional power infrastructure projects.

“The project acquisition has been a result of synergy between Daewoo International’s project winning capacity using its overseas information network and Taihan Electric Wire’s technological power,” said a project insider. “The companies will cooperate with one another strategically in order to continuously produce outcomes in the U.S. market where the demand for power network replacement is large.”
