Oracle has set up a plan to secure the highest market share by defeating IBM and HP in Korea’s X86 server market, of which the scale is expanding as of late. The strategy is to actively make use of engineered systems combined with the company’s independently developed software products, such as database management system (DBMS).
“Oracle’s market share in Korea is increasing while that of IBM and HP is decreasing," said Oracle Asia ? Pacific V.P Ron Goh on the 19th. “We will be a powerhouse in Korea’s X86 server market by actively proposing engineered systems to customers.”
Oracle Korea has launched and is supplying various engineered systems where various applications are added to X86 server. "Engineered systems offer a flexible environment because a variety of heterogeneous software products can be additionally linked," explained V.P Ron Goh. He emphasized, “Companies and public organizations can reduce maintenance cost by using engineered systems as the management points are decreased.”
Oracle Korea also plans to increase cooperation with Korean companies. “We have introduced the independent software vendor (ISV) program so that local companies in Korea can use Oracle’s technologies and networks,” explained V.P Ron Goh. “We will strengthen cooperation with verified software makers in Korea.”
Oracle Korea will release a flash-based storage, of which the competition is building up, in March next year. “Oracle is responding to corporate requirements with our existing data compression technology and an effective architecture,” said V.P Ran Goh. “We will be able to provide more diverse products to customers once the flash storage is released next year.” V.P Ron Goh said that Oracle is not examining plans for entry into business fields, such as system integration (SI), other than those for software and hardware.

5."오라클, IBM과 HP 제치고 국내 X86서버 시장 석권할 터"
오라클이 최근 시장 규모가 확대되고 있는 국내 X86 서버 시장에서 IBM과 HP를 제치고 시장점유율 1위 업체로 올라서겠다는 계획을 세웠다. 데이터베이스관리시스템(DBMS) 등 자체 소프트웨어(SW)와 결합한 엔지니어드시스템을 적극 내세우겠다는 전략이다.
최근 방한한 론고 오라클 아시아태평양본부 부사장은 “IBM과 HP의 국내 시장점유율은 줄어드는 반면에 오라클의 시장점유율은 높아지고 있다”며 “엔지니어드시스템을 고객에게 적극 제안해 한국에서의 X86 서버시장의 강자가 될 것”이라고 19일 말했다.
한국오라클은 X86서버에 각종 애플리케이션을 더한 다양한 엔지니어드시스템을 출시, 공급하고 있다. 론고 부사장은 “엔지니어드시스템은 다양한 이기종 SW를 추가로 연동이 가능해 시스템환경이 유연하다”며 “기업이나 기관들인 엔지니어드시스템을 사용하면 관리포인트가 줄어들어 유지관리 비용을 줄일 수 있다”고 강조했다.
국내 기업과의 협력도 강화할 계획이다. 론고 부사장은 “독립소프트웨어벤더(ISV) 프로그램을 도입해 한국 현지 기업들이 오라클의 기술과 네트워크를 활용할 수 있도록 하고 있다”며 “한국의 검증된 SW기업과 협력을 강화할 것”이라고 전했다.
최근 경쟁이 과열되는 플래시 기반 스토리지도 내년 3월 출시한다. 론고 부사장은 “오라클이 기존에 보유한 데이터 압축기술과 효과적인 아키텍처로 기업의 요구사항에 대응하고 있다”며 “내년 플래시 스토리지가 출시되면 보다 다양한 제품을 고객에게 제공할 수 있을 것”이라고 말했다. 론고 부사장은 SW나 HW 외 시스템통합(SI) 등 다른 영역의 사업진출은 검토하지 않고 있다고 밝혔다.
