Sun Microsystems Korea said on Feb. 9 that it signed a memorandum of understanding with homegrown system management software firm nKia to provide IT service management solutions to its main office in the U.S. in an original equipment manufacturing deal.

This is the first time that a Korean subsidiary of a multinational firm sends a domestically-developed solution to the main office in OEM deal.

Under the arrangement, nKIa`s system management software and service level management solutions will be provided worldwide as a part of Sun Micro IT asset management lineup.

The deal came as Sun Micro Systems formed a multi vendor service with nKia, which has won major ITSM sites including Doosan, LG Card and SK Telecom.

Industry experts say that the solution firm will be able to boost sales volumes significantly with the bundling with the leading global hardware company.

"We have already tested nKIa solutions in terms of technological capabilities," said a manager at Sun Microsystems Korea. "Sales managers at subsidiaries worldwide are poised to market nKIa products."

The two companies plan to ink a contract later this month after Sun Microsystems reinforced its ITSM business team.
