Samsung Electro-Mechanics announced on the 20th that it had signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH) to foster talents for materials and parts at the Gyeongbuk main campus of POSTECH on the 18th. A training course about new professional manpower in connection with recruitment will be established.

According to the agreement, Samsung Electro-Mechanics will propose future technology projects for materials and parts to POSTECH. POSTECH’s Department of Materials Science and Engineering and other connected departments will run project research and customized training courses. 14 professors from Pohang University will participate in the training course.

Selected graduate from the master's and doctoral programs of POSTECH will receive scholarships and financial aids. After their graduation, they will be employed at Samsung Electro-Mechanics.

The MOU signing ceremony was attended by Duck-hyun Chang, CEO of Samsung Electro-Mechanics, Doo-Young Kim, Head of Samsung Electro-Mechanics' Component Business Division, Si-Woo Lee, Director of Samsung Electro-Mechanics' Central Research Center, Moo-Hwan Kim, President of POSTECH, Jun-Woo Son, Professor of Materials Science and Engineering at POSTECH, and Jong-kyu Kim, Director of Planning at POSTECH.

CEO Chang said, “As the technology competition in the materials and parts industry becomes increasingly sharper, nurturing and securing professional talent is of paramount importance. This agreement will serve as an opportunity to strengthen not only Samsung Electro-Mechanics' technological competitiveness, but also the roots of Korea's materials and parts industry.”

President Moo-hwan Kim of Pohang University of Science and Technology said, “This partnership with Samsung Electro-Mechanics will play a big role in securing Korea's competitiveness in materials and parts. POSTECH will focus on nurturing key talents as a world-class research-oriented university.”

Samsung Electro-Mechanics is developing next-generation parts in the information technology (IT) and electric field based on core technologies such as △materials △multi-layer thin film molding △microcircuit implementation. The central research center in charge of R&D ensures future technologies and separate R&D teams are formed in each business unit to respond to technological changes in a timely manner.
