Major IT service companies are transforming their manpower into cloud experts. As cloud demand expands throughout the industry, it is a stepping stone to strengthen cloud business competitiveness and internalize cloud native management.

They are expanding cloud education in various ways such as building their own education center, and providing programs for certifications.

Samsung SDS established ‘Cloud Technology Hub’ in order to nurture cloud expert early last month. They also prepared their own ‘MSP T2’ curriculum, which focuses on practice and job on field.

T2 stands for ‘Talent Transformation’ and this program aims to architects, developers, operators, as well as sales, consultants regardless of their position into experts who are fluent as cloud service managed service provider (MSP). Their goal is to nurture about 4,000 manpower, which are 40% their whole employee.

LG CNS ran a 17-week training program with Slalom, a technology innovation consulting company, to benchmark an agile methodology, which is optimized for the cloud.

Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft (MS), and Google Cloud are also running cloud certificate acquisition programs. More than 2,000 LG CNS employees have obtained certificates. On top of that, they plan to train 500 people specializing in application modernization (AM) this year for their upgraded cloud business.

SK Inc. C&C has training and project practice courses tailored to the Career Level (CL) grades 1, 2, and 3, which are professional capability levels for each job. In Pangyo Cloud Data Center MultiCloud Zone, employee can experience MSP operation and cloud native development in different system environments.

They are also running professional technical training programs with Cloud service provider (CSP). A developer training program TTT (Train The Trainer) with AWS will be provided. SK Inc. C&C has about 1,000 people who have acquired cloud certifications. Including duplicate certifications, a total of 1,700 cloud-related certifications are present.

POSCO ICT providescompensation to employees who acquire international accredited certificates related to AWS, VMware, and Clouderaaccording to their grades. In addition, in-house education programs are being prepared to expand cloud manpower.

CJ OliveNetworks plans to introduce a cloud technology certification system. It is a system that allows employee to take cloud-related exams and get certified. In addition, they are supporting their employees to take AWS online training.

GS ITM provides online education every month and supports certificate acquisition in order to train cloud specialists and improve professional competency. If it is a certificate organized by major five CSP, including AWS, Google, and Naver Cloud, they will provide support without any special restrictions.

Jae-chun Ham, the director of Korea Association of Cloud Industry, said, “Cloud transition is intensifying from private to public sector. In order to respond to this environment changes, they have to provide cloud service education where there are many IT service companies trying to transform in to MSP.”

Hyo-geun Chae, the vice president of Korea Information Technology Service Industry Association, said, “The form of system integration (SI), an IT service company business area, is developing in line with the cloud era, therefore professional education has to be expanded.”
