SK Hynix made an announcement on its last year’s performance in creating social values on Monday. The company stated that it created $4.8 billion (5.3737 trillion KRW) through payment of taxes, employment, and allocation, -$540 million (596.9 billion KRW) for business social impact, and $99 million (110.6 billion KRW) through donations and corporate philanthropic activities.
For the sector of indirect economic contributions where the company achieved the greatest performance, the amount of social values created in 2020 increased by 32% compared to the previous year due to improved situation within the semiconductor industry.
However, negative impact from its business social impact increased by 11% ($51 million (57.1 billion KRW)) due to various environmental factors such as emission of greenhouse gas. Its social impact from social contributions increased by $37 million (41.3 billion KRW) through concentrated efforts in trying to overcome COVID-19.

SK Hynix plans to implement its medium to long-term plan (SV2030) of creating social values that it announced last January at the corporate level.
The company, which is the first in the memory semiconductor industry to join RE100, has decided to concentrate on improving the environment in particular by minimizing emission of greenhouse gas, reducing waste, and increasing use of recycled water resources.
Kim Yun-ok, who is a vice president at SK Hynix, said that the company will continue to work on strengthening its ESG (environmental, social, and governance) management and increasing amount of social values created and ultimately look for ways to make contributions to the mankind and the society.
