Samsung SDS is looking to target the South Korean market and foreign markets with its AI-based RPA (Robotic Process Automation) solution called “Brity Works”. Its goal is to grow into a rival horse within the market that is centered on foreign solutions.
“Since we introduced Brity Works last year, we have saved 820,000 hours of work for executives and employees in just 11 months.” said Vice-President Lim Soo-hyeon of Samsung SDS. “We applied Brity Works to 22,000 cases of tasks and automated two tasks per person on average.”
Brity Works is based on various AI technologies such as chatbot, OCR (Optical Character Recognition), machine learning, and deep learning. It is an IPA (Intelligent Process Automation) solution that automates tasks that are complicated and require multiple people.
“While RPA is effective for standardized data, it can be effective for atypical business transaction and decision-making if it is combined with AI.” said Vice-President Lim. “Brity Works is based on RPA and it is also applied with AI and HCD (Human Centered Design) that implements ways how people communicate and think.”
The global RPA market is led by foreign companies such as Automation Anywhere and UiPath. Samsung SDS is seen as a rival to these companies as it has shown an outstanding performance in just one year after it introduced Brity Works.
Samsung SDS introduced Brity Works to 30 South Korean companies such as Samsung Electronics, Samsung Securities, Suhyup Bank, and ETLAND. These companies are using Brity Works for analysis of current status on resources, customer service, and sales management. In order to increase the number of partners, Samsung SDS signed partnerships with 20 partners.

Based on its success within the South Korean market, Samsung SDS will look to target foreign markets as well.
Through its global corporations, it will unfold its RPA business and work closely with local partners. It signed a business agreement with PwC Consulting in February and it decided to pioneer the market in South Korea and other countries by combining PwC’s experiences in global consulting and Samsung SDS’ technical skills in Brity Works. It recently made an agreement with a global payment platform business called Credorax, which provides its services in 30 different countries such as Europe, the U.S., and China, regarding applying Brity Works to Credorax’s payment platform.
“Brity Works is already being used by major affiliated companies of Samsung and it will contribute to innovating entire tasks of Samsung’s subsidiaries as the standardized RPA solution.” said Vice-President Lim. “By securing successful portfolios in different fields such as manufacturing and finance, we are going to increase our market shares by spreading Brity Works globally.”
Samsung SDS is going to innovate Brity Works even more by applying its abilities in technologies such as AI and big data.
“The current level of technologies of the global RPA industry primarily focuses on automating standardized tasks.” said Vice-President Lim. “In the future, RPA will be applied with AI in order to learn situations and solve complicated issues.” Vice-President also added that combination of RPA with relevant technologies such as big data and AI will be very important and that Samsung SDS is going to provide products that increase ripple effects and influential solutions globally by adding technical skills in big data, AI, and blockchain already secured by different internal teams.
