“As businesses are fiercely competing against one another to grab the upper hand within future markets, only innovative culture will allow us to grow continuously. Let us boldly prepare for innovations for higher growth based on our ‘innovative DNA’ that has allowed us to transform ourselves from a display business to an energy and a material business.”
President Jeon Young-hyeon of Samsung SDI made such statement through his congratulatory speech for 49th anniversary of Samsung SDI that was held at Samsung SDI’s business place in Giheung on the 1st with 200 executives and employees in attendance.
Today marks the 49th anniversary of Samsung SDI. Under the banner of localizing electronic part industry, Samsung SDI has written ‘a history of innovations’ for the past 50 years.
After dominating global market through Braun tube industry, which was the state-of-the-art industry in 1970s, it has since written a new history of display industry through innovative technologies such as PDP (Plasma Display Panel), LCD, and OLED. It transferred its OLED business to Samsung Display, which was established in 2009, liquidated its PDP business in 2013, and it transferred itself into a battery and a material business in 2014 by merging with Cheil Industries’ materials sector. It has been at the forefront of internationalization through Malaysia, Hungary, and Tiajin and it has also been at the forefront of innovative management by proactively introducing ‘six sigma’ management method.
