It is heard that TSMC, a Taiwanese foundry business, started producing ‘A13 (tentative name)’ processors that will go into new iPhones.
Bloomberg reported that TSMC had gone through trial production of A13 chips last month and is planning to mass-produce them sometime during this month.
Bloomberg did not mention any detailed function of A13 chip that plays a role of a brain for a Smartphone. However, Bloomberg reported that A13 chip has improved processing speed and battery efficiency considering the fact that Apple applied upgraded chips for its new Smartphones in the past.
Apple had been releasing its new iPhones during fall season. It is heard that Apple is planning to release three new models this year just like last year. These models include two models equipped with OLED displays and one model equipped with LCD display.
It is heard that Apple’s new iPhones will have more cameras compared to previous iPhones. It is expected that OLED models and LCD model will be equipped with triple-cameras and dual-camera respectively.
TSMC is the world’s biggest foundry business. Foundry business is a business that produces semiconductors after receiving orders from a semiconductor design business (fabless). TSMC has been monopolistic with production of processors for iPhones in recent years as it was the first one to commercialize 7-nano (nm) process and developed packaging technologies such as FO-WLP (Fan Out-Wafer Level Packaging).
